Company Profile
The company was founded in 1964 by John Sargent when he sold the family car to put a deposit on a truck to commence work as a haulage contractor for Humes Ltd Concrete Pipe manufacturers at Harden. This soon grew to several trucks and expanded to include the cartage of sand, aggregate, bagged cement, steel reinforcement and coal for the steam boiler.
March 1972 saw the purchase of the local sand and gravel yard, this was followed by the first concrete plant which was bought new and established in Harden in May 1976 and featured one 1.6m3 truck. Even in the small town of Harden this soon proved to be too small and expansion was required.
By October 1981 the quarry at Jugiong was purchased in order to supply the concrete plant and Humes, as well as customers in surrounding towns with quarry products.
During 1986 Humes closed its Harden Plant necessitating the pursuit of new markets.
So in 1990 an existing concrete plant in Young was purchased and replaced with a new plant and office facilities. This was followed through the mid nineties by the purchase or establishment of concrete plants in Braidwood, Yass, Boorowa, Gundagai, Tumut and Cootamundra.
Also during this time came the addition of quarries at Braidwood, Bungendore and Gundagai to strengthen the company’s position in the market and access to a greater customer base.
The quarries and concrete plants have traded under various names over the years and from 1 July 2009 were all banded together under the name of Tegra Australia Pty Ltd.
In support of these operations Tegra Australia has modern fleet of agitators, bulk haulage trucks and mobile concrete batching plant. The company continues to supply the construction industry, civil works projects and the landscape industry throughout the southern region of New South Wales and the Australian Capital Territory.
